Lavender essential Oil - uses

Here are some of my favorite uses of lavender essential oil:1.) Sleep - Lavender helps me (and my dogs) have a peaceful nights sleep.  I've been sleeping much sounder and deeper since I started using lavender just on the souls of my feet right before bedtime.  My old dog, who sleeps at my feet, also has been sleeping more soundly.
2.) Bug Bites - I've had to deal with chiggers and ticks already this season.  I use Lavender to soothe bug bites. I just applied my lavender oil straight on the bite (you do not need a carrier oil for high quality lavender).
3.) Soothe discomfort from grabbing a hot pan or being in the sun too long.  I got my first sunburn (hopefully my last, too) of the season yesterday.   This works fantastic when you've had one of those kitchen accidents. Just add this oil neat (without a carrier oil) to the skin every 1/2 hour or 15 minutes until the redness fades. DO NOT use a carrier oil with this as it will trap in the heat instead.  As a chef, we have kitchen burns every now and then.  Lavender offers up great relief to us.
4.) Lavender can help in the skin's own natural ability to heal irritations - Apply a little coconut oil and lavender EO on top of patches of skin where irritations are occurring and put a stop to that crazy itching!
5.) Soothe minor cuts- Lavender oil can soothe a minor cut, just add it to the wound. It will also help slow bleeding.
6.) Aids in the relief of Seasonal Sniffles- Lavender helps you fight off those pesky seasonal sniffles, lavender EO is great to help stop the itch and runny nose when taken internally and/or applied to the stomach or to the spine. A great recipe for this seasonal affliction is to put 2 drops each of lavender, cedarwood, and tea tree into a disposable essential oil "inhaler," (found on amazon).
7.) Detox Bath - Use lavender EO for a great detox bath by adding a few cups of epsom salt mixed with a few drops of lavender EO then mix with the bath water.  Lie down and relax as those toxins leave your body.  You emerge relaxed and refreshed and you smell good, too!
8.) I heard that you can stop a Nosebleed- Did you know that lavender is known to slow nosebleeds? Just add a drop to a tissue and apply to the nose.
9.) Supports the Respiratory System-   When I want to support my respiratory system and keep my immune system healthy I reach for: lavender, peppermint and lemon.

I only use Young Living essential oils for this because they are 100% pure therapeutic grade and they are safe to use internally and topically. Essential oils from the store are not safe for internal or topical use and can have synthetic additives. Essential Oils - short history lesson

Essential oils have been around since the Egyptian era.   They were known to have used the oils for physical health and well being as well as mood stabilizers and enhancers.  Their belief was that the body, mind and soul were vessels that must be maintained in a healthful way in order to live a bountiful and fulfilling life.  They achieved this thru the ritual use of essential oils.

Evidence also suggests that Jesus is likely to have used Frankincense for cuts and bruises in his childhood.  According to Alain Touwaide, a historian of medicine at the Institute for the Preservation of Medical Traditions and the Smithsonian Institution,1 “We have textual—and also archaeological—evidence that both frankincense and myrrh were used as medicinal substances in antiquity.”

Today, people (nurses, doctors, nutritionists, moms, dads as well as Kings and priests) from of all walks of life are still using essential oils for the healing of the body and mind.

I have chosen to utilize and talk mainly about Young Living Essential Oils

I've been dabbling in Essential Oils for many years.  I use it for therapeutic purposes, cooking (adding more flavor and healthful benefits to my foods and as aroma therapy)  I decided to start this blog as a way to impart information I've  learned and am learning and to give you the opportunity to try out Essential Oils for yourself!
